Many of the children have enjoyed taking on different roles in our home corner. Kaily D dressed up as a chef, baked a cake and offered it to educators. Mary H the teacher, read a story to her class. Many children dressed up as ambulance paramedics and a variety of other characters.
The Early Years Learning Framework states that children express ideas and make meaning using a range of media. Creative and dramatic play can lead children to break through the limitations of reality as they pretend to be someone or something different. When children engage in dramatic play they deepen their understanding of the world and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
Dramatic play aids:
• Social and emotional development
• Physical development
• Cognitive development
• Language development and use of symbols
• Distinguishing between fantasy and reality
• Not conforming to stereotypes
